Nissan Oil Change

Nissan Oil Change

Changing the oil in your Nissan is an important part of routine maintenance to keep the engine running smoothly. Here are general steps you can follow for a basic oil change:

1. Gather Materials:

  • New oil filter
  • Sufficient amount of the correct oil for your Nissan (refer to your vehicle’s owner’s manual for specifications)
  • Oil drain pan
  • Socket set and wrench
  • Oil filter wrench
  • Funnel
  • Jack stands or ramps (if needed)

2. Prepare the Vehicle:

  • Park your Nissan on a level surface.
  • Ensure the engine is cool to the touch.

3. Lift the Vehicle (if necessary):

  • Use a jack to lift the front of the vehicle, and secure it with jack stands. Alternatively, you can use ramps.

4. Locate the Oil Drain Plug:

  • Consult your owner’s manual to find the location of the oil drain plug on the bottom of the engine.

5. Drain the Oil:

  • Place the oil drain pan beneath the drain plug.
  • Use a socket wrench to loosen the drain plug.
  • Allow the old oil to drain into the pan.

6. Remove and Replace the Oil Filter:

  • Use an oil filter wrench to remove the old oil filter.
  • Apply a small amount of oil to the rubber gasket on the new oil filter.
  • Screw on the new oil filter hand tight.

7. Replace the Drain Plug:

  • Once the oil has fully drained, replace and tighten the drain plug.

8. Add New Oil:

  • Use a funnel to pour the correct amount and type of oil into the oil fill cap.

9. Check the Oil Level:

  • Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
  • Turn off the engine and wait a minute for the oil to settle.
  • Check the oil level using the dipstick. Add more oil if necessary.

10. Dispose of Old Oil:

  • Take the used oil and filter to a recycling center or an auto parts store that accepts used oil.

11. Record the Oil Change:

It’s important to follow your Nissan’s specific maintenance guidelines, which can be found in the owner’s manual. If you’re not comfortable performing the oil change yourself, consider taking your Nissan to a certified mechanic or an authorized service center.
