Pontiac was a brand of automobiles manufactured by General Motors (GM) from 1926 to 2010. Founded by General Motors executive Alfred Sloan, it was positioned as a mid-level brand, slotting in between Chevrolet and Oldsmobile in terms of pricing and features.

Throughout its history, Pontiac produced a range of vehicles, including sedans, coupes, convertibles, and performance-oriented models. Some notable models include:

Pontiac GTO: Introduced in 1964, the GTO is often considered one of the first muscle cars and became an icon of American automotive performance.
Firebird: Produced from 1967 to 2002, the Firebird was a popular sports car known for its sleek design and high-performance variants, such as the Trans Am.
Grand Prix: A mid-size sedan produced from 1962 to 2008, offering a blend of comfort and performance.
Bonneville: Initially introduced as a full-size luxury car in 1957, the Bonneville evolved over the years and eventually became a mid-size sedan before being discontinued in 2005.
Vibe: A compact hatchback produced in partnership with Toyota, sold from 2002 to 2010.

Despite its history of producing popular and iconic models, Pontiac faced challenges in the automotive market, particularly during the economic downturn of the late 2000s. In 2009, as part of its restructuring efforts following bankruptcy, General Motors announced the discontinuation of the Pontiac brand, with the last Pontiac models rolling off the assembly line in 2010.

While Pontiac no longer produces vehicles, many of its models remain popular among automotive enthusiasts and collectors, and the brand holds a significant place in American automotive history.
